The show began at 8:30 p.m. with Scott Bowman serving as the Master of Ceremonies. Bowman welcomed the guests to the “Mer- rie Mimics Night at the Movies.” The evening began with the Merrie Mimics Monkeys – mascots of the Merrie Mimics. For 66 years, the Monkeys have kicked off the beginning of the Fall Ball Season with the ceremonial rolling out of the barrel. Dancing to “Footloose” the monkeys danced down the red carpet wearing their best 80’s costumes, complete with fluorescent tutus, matching fish-net gloves and black masks. Next, Bowman introduced the men of Merrie Mimics who en- tered the ballroom to “Danger Zone” from the movie Top Gun, looking very sharp in their tux’s and aviator sunglasses. Per Merrie Mimics tradition, the members entered the ballroom, elegantly dressed in black masks and black gowns to the soundtrack from The Greatest Showman. In 1987, another Hollywood classic was born when we learned that “no one puts Baby in the corner”. Just like the classic movie Dirty Dancing, The Past Queens of Merrie Mimics walked the red carpet to “The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes. In true tradition, the “Soul Sisters,” the 2019 Board and Officers of Merrie Mimics strutted down the red carpet to collaboration of Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya & Pink’s “Lady Marmalade.” This year’s Queen has always dreamed big when watching her favorite movies! She sings her favorite songs as loud as possible. She believes that movies captivate their audiences. The music that accompanies these movies brings us back to a time when we first saw it, who we were with and what we were wearing. Movies and music allow an audience to transform but for a moment while watching and listening, becoming someone, they never thought they could be. A great movie can inspire someone to achieve their dreams and turn their hopes into realty. A brilliant song can make you sing at the top of your lungs and dance like no one is watching! That why this year’s Queen chose to enter the ballroom to “Danc- ing Queen” by ABBA. As the music played, the Master of Ceremonies introduced the 2019 Queen of Merrie Mimics. She emerged with her escort from the red curtains wearing a gorgeous cream-colored gown with gold appliqués, a simple tiara above her head, and a beautiful mask made of rhinestones. The rest of the evening, guests and members thoroughly enjoyed the evening by dancing the night away to the sounds of “Norris Dates & Power Surge!” n Find us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter 0CTOBER 2019 57 Merrie Mimics Queen and her family.
