The reason people feel so special is due in part to Anderson’s mission when she opened the bakery a year and a half ago. “I want to be a positive influence in Bullock County, in Union Springs. When people do drive in to see the bakery, it makes me happy,” she said. Customers may satisfy a sweet tooth, or enjoy the daily lunch special. Favorite cakes include the award-winning salted caramel, a sumptuous strawberry, and a lip-smacking lemon blueberry. The salted caramel, a creation fit for the gods, took the prize in the dessert category at this year’s Feast of Flavours held at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival inMontgomery. FPH Bakery pro- vides cakes for weddings, anniversaries, showers, ladies’ lunch- eons, reunions and more. Anderson’s success with the bakery centers on her relationship with its patrons. It goes back to the connection — to give people a place to be a part of. “Get to know your customers before you open,” she says, “Share your dreams. Let them know who you are.” She wants her business to continue to grow in the future. “I want to keep the bakery going for my community. I’m just a vessel,” Anderson said.
