Rock Steady Boxing is Taking a Punch Out of Parkinson’s at MetroFitness R OCK S TEADY B OXING IS A UNIQUE EXERCISE PROGRAM BASED ON THE TRAINING USED BY BOXING PROS THAT HAS BEEN ADAPTED TO HELP PEOPLE WITH P ARKINSON ’ S DISEASE . T HE PROGRAM INVOLVES LOTS OF NON - CONTACT BOXING , LED BY EXPERIENCED TRAINERS / COACHES , AS WELL AS STRETCHING , BICYCLING , RUNNING , JUMP - ROPING , PUSH - UPS AND BALANCING . R OCK S TEADY B OXING SERVES BOTH MEN AND WOMEN OF ALL AGES AND LEVELS OF ABILITY . ith an estimated 1-1.5million Amer- icans with Parkinson’s disease, the Rock Steady Boxing Method was launched in 2006 to help fight Parkinson’s through non-contact boxing. Today, there are 871 Rock Steady Boxing affiliates all over the world and 40,000 people training with this program. Rock Steady Boxing, the first program of its kind first came to MetroFitness in October of 2017. “We are fortunate to have this program in Montgomery,” said Leigh Anne Richards, General Manager of MetroFitness. We have trained staff who have successfully completed the Rock Steady Boxing Training Camp, and are certified to lead the Rock Steady Boxing training classes to individuals with Parkinson’s disease. We believe this has been a huge benefit to people in the River Region who are battling Parkinson’s.” Metro- Fitness is the only fa- cility offering this program in the whole River Region area. Classes are Mon- day to Friday from 11:30 to 1:00. Each class is $20 or partic- ipants can pay $130 per month.
