Happy Anniversary Rock Steady Montgomery! “Of all the pills I’ve taken, Rock Steady Boxing is the finest andmost effective,” says Rock Steady athlete Pete Stewart. Rock Steady Boxing is a programdesigned to punch out Parkinson’s Disease and empower people with Parkinson’s to fight back. On October 10, 2017, MetroFitness launched Montgomery’s Rock Steady Boxing program. At that time, it was the third affiliate in the state and has grown from the original 10 participants to 40. Rock Steady emphasizes gross motor skills, balance, core strength, flexibility, posture, gait and activities of daily living. Non-contact boxing is one of the key components — truly the whole concept — behind the program. Indiana prosecutor Scott C. Newman, also living with Parkinson’s, founded Rock Steady Boxing in 2006. He witnessed dramatic improvements of his symptoms through intense, high energy workouts. After boxing Newman would hold out his hand and say “I am rock steady.” According to Leigh Anne Richards of MetroFitness and 30 year veteran in the industry, there is no other program as fulfilling for both participants and leaders. This is evidenced by the joy and camaraderie of participants as they fight together to punch out Parkinson’s. MetroFitness boasts 3 certified trainers and classes 5 days a week. Boxers agree they have improved strength, balance and endurance for daily activities. 36 AL/ Metro 360 www.almetro360.com Join MetroFitness for our one-year anniversary celebration on Wednesday, October 10th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.— lunch will be provided.
