Trinity Presbyterian School Responds: One World, One School, One Family! B Y T RACY S HAMBURGER O N M ARCH 14 THE PARENTS AND STUDENTS OF T RINITY P RESBYTERIAN S CHOOL RECEIVED OFFICIAL WORD THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE RETURNING TO CAMPUS FOR THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE . he COVID-19 pan- demic forced educators to reimagine the classroom experience. But Trinity was well positioned to respond having a cur- riculum and platform that already immersed students into twenty-first century technological learning and com- munication. Interim Head of School, Merle Henkel, Pete McCoy, Technology Director and the Trinity faculty and staff went into action to develop a virtual experience for the Trinity Family. “Trinity was blessed to already have the equipment and software in place to make a seamless conversion to the virtual classroom and school communication” indicated Pete McCoy, Technology Director. “Our students and teachers were already well equipped to convert to a full-time virtual learning experience.” “We were fortunate in that we had already been using the dis- tance learning platform, Canvas, for many years,” states Analyn Coker, Dean of Middle and Upper School Girls. “All of our teachers completed plans for the first week of distance learning even before we left for Spring Break. We were prepared!” Trinity is a “one-to-one” school meaning each child in the middle and upper school is assigned a computer. In addition to the 6th through 12th grades who carried computers home daily, the 4th and 5th grade students were also included. They were allowed to take their computers home for a richer virtual classroom experience while complying with the mandated “Safe at Home” order. During the pandemic, the Technology Department offered re- mote support through various platforms that allowed the depart- ment to remotely control and update the student and faculty com- ............................................................................................................................ b OF ALAB eat AMA ETH The Trinity varsity girls golf team missed the opportunity to take part in the AHSAA 4A/5A State Championship. Their head coach, Tim Bethea (following proper social distancing rules) dropped by their homes with a surprise to show his appreciation for and encourage them! 48 AL/ Metro 360 www.almetro360.com T Giving back is part of the Trinity experience.
