ALMetro360: How long have you been working in photography? Darren Freeman: I have been a photographer for over 30 years. I made photography my full-time endeavor in 2000. ALM: What were you doing before going into photography? DF: Before becoming a full-time photographer, I worked in com- munication sales. I was one of the local pioneers in the cell phone industry. While working full time in the wireless industry, I was also doing photography part time. ALM: What attracted you to this field? How did you get into pho- tography? DF: Growing up I wanted to be an artist as I enjoyed drawing. So, I guess I’ve always had a passion for imagery. My senior year in high school I borrowed a Yashica twin lens waist level 120/220 film camera from a friend and fell in love with the images I was able to capture with it. At the time having a good camera was a sort of a big deal. A 35mm camera was the goal of every aspiring photographer but they were quite expensive. While in college at Auburn I worked part time and was able to finally afford to buy my first camera. It was a used Pentax K1000 35mm (the camera many photographers started out with).
