..................................................................................................................................................................... and autumn fern will all make a repeat performance each spring and show off until fall sets in. Selections somewhere in the middle of all-day sun and complete shade perform better when exposure to the hot, southern sun is limited to the morning. Geraniums, petu- nias, varieties of coleus, NewGuinea impatiens, sunpatiens, and bacopa will thrive under part sun conditions. As the popular saying goes, plant your containers with a thriller (for height), a filler (that mounds) and spiller (that grows over the side). With one or two tweaks, the same can be said of your garden. Place taller plants to the back, behind medium height plants that will help fill the space, and complete the bed with shorter, edge defining plants in the front. Just make sure all plants grouped to- gether in this way need the same sun and watering condi- tions. This recipe will guarantee that all the layers will have a place for their blooms to be seen and enjoyed throughout the season. Watering daily, sometimes even twice a day for contain- ers in full sun, is a must. And don’t forget to fertilize every other week with a liquid spray, or every other month if a granular type fertilizer is used. With proper selection, regular watering, and timely fer- tilizing, your yard and pots will be enjoyed for months to come.
