it was part of paying his “civic rent,” those reasons, while still valid, simply aren’t enough anymore. Frankly, we don’t deserve your support unless we are identifying needs, acquiring resources, allocating funds to successful programs and being accountable for change – real change. I’m proud to report that we are doing all these things and more. L OOKING AHEAD Our vision for the next 95 years is one where the solutions we co-create with communities go beyond short-term charity for some and instead, translate into a safer, healthier and more prosperous River Re- gion for everyone. A River Region where, together, we all fight for the health, education, financial stability and basic needs of every person in every community. That realization goes beyond who the River Region United Way is or what we do. Our vision can only be realized when we look beyond the who and the what, and embrace the why of our founders 95 years ago and countless others who share the wisdom of our grandfathers. We may use modern methods, but we agree with the sentiment of our elders – we rise and fall together. Join us in this important work. You and I, let’s LIVE UNITED and make life better for everyone. Jimmy Hill has served with the River Region UnitedWay for eight years, where he is currently Pres- ident and CEO. As River Region United Way com- memorates its 95th Anniversary, ALMetro360 is featuring a different “changemaker” each month for the remainder of 2018. n 76 AL/ Metro 360 www.almetro360.com W E MAY USE MODERN METHODS , BUT WE AGREE WITH THE SENTIMENT OF OUR ELDERS – WE RISE AND FALL TOGETHER .
