MONTGOMERY MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts was founded in 1930 by a group of local artists and patrons under the name of the “Al- abama Society of Fine Arts.” The museum’s home for the first 29 years was the former Lawrence Street School, and then from 1953 to 1988 a purpose-built space the same site. The current state-of- the-art facility opened in the Blount Cultural Park on September 18, 1988. Expanded multiple times since 1992, the now 65,000 square-foot facility features grand galleries, interactive family space in ArtWorks with two art studios, the Wilson Auditorium, Cafe� M, the Museum Store, and the new two-acre John and Joyce Caddell Sculpture Garden, opening fall of 2018. The mission of the MMFA is to collect, preserve, exhibit and in- terpret art of the highest quality for the enrichment, enlighten- ment, and enjoyment of its public. Noted for its outstanding survey collection of American paintings and sculpture, the museum also boasts an impressive collection of Old Master Prints, Southern re- gional art and decorative arts. The museum’s permanent collection is complemented by an exciting array of traveling exhibitions and stimulating educational programs that examine the diverse facets of the world of fine art.
