ARTS: Students at MA begin their exposure to the performing and visual arts in Kindergarten. While in the Lower School, they attend music and art classes weekly and each student has either a speaking or singing part in the annual class play. The confidence and artistic appreciation that is encouraged at the Lower School continues in the Middle School with opportunities to take electives in drama, chorus, theater, speech and debate and visual art. MA also boasts an award-winning choral program in the Lower, Middle and Upper School. Choral groups win competitions at the district, state and national level and continue to earn “Superior” awards at state assessments. Student artwork is showcased at several local galleries and is recognized annually as Scholastic Gold and Silver Key winners. Several Advanced Placement (AP) courses in the arts are offered. ACCREDITATION: Dually accredited by SACS (Southern As- sociation of Colleges and Schools) and the SAIS (Southern Asso- ciation of Independent Schools), the Academy is also a member of the College Board, Educational Records Bureau, School Schol- arship Service, Southern Association of Admission Counseling, the National Association for College Admission Counseling, Cum Laude Society (the only local chapter) and the National, Southern and Alabama Associations of Independent Schools.
