The ball celebrates the wives and sweethearts of the members beginning with the first ball held on February 14th, 1948. For the evening, Sarah Spratling transformed the ballroom and adjoining rooms with hangings of silver lame and red satin with giant red hearts suspended above the draperies. Grand floral arrangements of pink Secret Garden roses, red Charlotte roses, white hydrangeas and antique carnations were placed on the stage on either side of the thrones. The lights dimmed promptly at 8:30, and the guests were welcomed by the Master of Ceremonies, William Christopher Parsons. The King and Captain of the ball arrived wearing elaborate white satin costumes with silver jeweled trim created by Jay Herring of Mystick Couturier. Next came the Krewe wearing the traditional white satin costume with large red heart and flowing red satin cape and plumed hat followed by the Pages to the King dressed in a miniature version of the Maskers costume. 1 2 As the excitement began to build, the Princesses to the Queen were introduced wearing dresses of antique English netting over an ecru petticoat with a tiny crown of English pearls on their heads and carrying nosegays of pink spray roses nestled in a collar of Baby’s Breath. The dresses were made by Beth Bryson of Beth’s Heirloom Sewing. With a royal fanfare the Queen of Maskers, Miss Catherine Lauren Talkington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Randall Talkington, greeted her guests wearing an elegant gown of pearl topaz satin with an underskirt of embossed rose gold brocade featuring hand set Swarovski crystals at the neckline and the hem of the gown. The gown was created especially for Lauren by Jay Herring. Lauren is a student at Auburn University majoring in Geological Sciences and is a member of the Glomerata Photography Staff. Following the presentation, the Maskers, the court and the guests danced the night away to the music of the band Accent. 1. 2018 Queen Lauren Talkington and 2017 Queen, Ryan Terry. 2.
