All of the schools are open, Friday night lights are shining around the Heart of Alabama, and there is a new crispness in the air. Just around the corner the Holiday Season awaits us! I’ve always loved the Holidays. I don’t know about you, but this year I’m even more ready than ever! A dose of thanksgiving and hope is just what my heart needs. So, we here at ALMetro360 decided the holiday season needed its own issue! Whenever we want scrumptious recipes and expert tips in the kitchen, we look to Stacy Lyn Harris. Extremely gracious and kind, she’s always willing to share her knowledge. There is no one better to in- struct us on cooking the perfect Holiday turkey! You can find even more delicious ways to cook your turkey on her website stacyl ynharris.com — they’re not just for roasting anymore! DiAnna Paulk is one of our amazing photographers and she also has a food blog. Since Holiday meals are often decadent, I thought it would be great for her to share with us some “healthy” sides to go with our Turkey. Now we don’t have to feel guilty when we splurge on dessert! Speaking of, dessert gets a little personal in this issue. If you don’t have a family recipe for pound cake or pecan pie feel free to borrow mine. The pound cake recipe has gone through a transformation as it was passed down through the generations. The final version published here is the most flavorful — just don’t tell my brother, Buddy, as it might go to his head! The holidays can sometimes be hard if you’re watching your weight, trying to stretch a budget or mourning the loss of a loved one. We tackle some of these more difficult issues as well. I’m especially thankful to Libby Fitzpatrick for addressing the often ever-present holiday blues. Number one take away — ask for help! Local floral designer, friend and expert on all things beautiful gives us great tips for holiday decorating. Lauren Ladner’s style and taste are impeccable so you can trust her! And of course — among many other topics having to do with the Holidays — we’ve got our annual Gift Guide with recommendations varying from extravagant to practical to everything in between! Happy Holidays! Helen Helen Herndon, Publisher W
