an environment that reinforces the home’s values. AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT: The Soli Deo Gloria En- richment program for lower school students offers classes such as guitar, piano, acting, art, and ballet. It includes the Science Olympiad Club and the Elementary Cantoribus (Singers). ACADEMICS: Eastwood Christian School bases its educational program on the Classical Trivium—Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric — taught from a Biblical worldview. The lower school contains the Grammar School, where each subject’s grammar lays the foun- dation for all learning. The instruction includes a strong emphasis on phonics that helps develop strong readers, Bible, math, science, and a timeline approach to history. In literature, our students read the classics and books that complement the history curriculum. Eastwood’s lower school limits class sizes to fourteen or less in K4 and kindergarten, fifteen or less in first through third grades, and eighteen or less in fourth through sixth grades, at the school board’s discretion. The upper school contains the Logic and Rhetoric Schools and offers a core-curriculum college preparatory program. The study includes four years of history, English, mathematics, science, Latin, and theology. Our literature classes cover parallel historical periods each year. Eighth-grade students take logic. Twelfth-grade students take rhetoric. All seniors must write and defend a research thesis before a faculty panel and deliver a senior speech. Core-curriculum education provides a rigorous foundation for our graduates, preparing them for a life of productivity and learn- ing. Nearly one-hundred percent of them have chosen a college education. At ECS, the mind, body, and spirit strengthen as stu- dents engage in a rigorous academic curriculum and participate in the arts and athletics in an environment of Christian disciple- ship. Our upper school faculty have mastery over their subjects, pas- sion for Jesus Christ, and communication skills. Our upper school teachers provide an 8:1 faculty/student ratio. ATHLETICS: Most upper school students are involved in one or more of Eastwood’s team sports: volleyball, cross country, bas- ketball, tennis, soccer, and baseball. Eastwood also fields a com- petitive trap and skeet team. Eastwood recently added an Arts & Athletics Campus (AAC) containing a multipurpose gymnasium and more than eight acres for future development. The facility is located ten miles from the main campus at the corner of Vaughn Road and Chantilly Parkway. Eastwood Presbyterian Church and School look forward to significant development of this property in the coming years. ARTS: Since all of creation and truth connect in the Lordship of Christ, we believe the arts can be a powerful classroom tool. Mathematics forms a framework for visual art and music. The power of melody helps students remember important information. Projects help to reinforce essential concepts while allowing students to engage their creativity in the learning process. Eighth-grade students take art appreciation. This class encour- ages them to think about the components of art, recognize them as they study art history, and understand what art says about cul- ture and philosophy. Ninth-grade students study music appreciation in a class that teaches them to recognize “high art” music components. They learn the basics of music, the components of an orchestra, and listen to and recognize various music styles. They gain an under- standing of music’s ability to convey ideas and emotions. For the past sixteen years, Eastwood has performed Broadway- style musicals that contain timeless truths. Students are encouraged to see that performing arts can help convey these truths to Chris- tians and non-Christians alike if they perform for their Creator’s glory. These musicals incorporate over half of the upper school students and many of the lower school students. Each musical’s difficulty and scale challenge students to perform at a high level of acting, singing, and dancing. ANNUAL TUITION: Eastwood Christian offers several pay- ment plans: annual full tuition, semi-annual, or monthly. Early registration is through January 31st.
