That’s why Real Men Wear Pink, a distinguished group of community leaders, is determined to raise awareness and money to support the American Cancer Society’s mission to save more lives than ever from breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. Ac- cording to the American Cancer Society the average risk of a woman in the United States devel- oping breast cancer sometime in her life is about 13%. This means there is a 1 in 8 chance she will develop breast cancer. This also means there is a 7 in 8 chance she will never have the dis- ease. You would be hard pressed to find someone whose life has not been impacted by breast cancer. For this reason, the gentleman of the Real Men Wear Pink campaign are choosing to take a leadership role in the fight against breast cancer. From 2013 to 2017, the breast cancer death rate decreased by 1.3% per year. The decrease in breast cancer mortality is believed to be the result of finding breast cancer earlier through screening and increased awareness, as well as better treatments. By bringing more awareness to breast cancer, these distinguished men help shine a spotlight on early detection as well as raise important funds to go toward developing the next generation of lifesaving treatments. When communities unite to fight breast cancer, great things happen. By tapping into the power of pink, the Real Men Wear Pink campaign has raised over 6.5 million dollars. With the help of these distinguished gentleman from the Heart of Alabama, the American Cancer Society will make even greater strides toward eradicating this disease. n 30 AL/ Metro 360 www.almetro360.com F
