The Zoo is considered a leader in the animal care, conservation, and wildlife research. Each year, the Zoo’s educational outreach pro- grams teach thousands of adults and children the importance of conserv- ing the natural environment and the plight of threatened or en- dangered species. However, the Zoo also has a much larger responsibility to the wildlife of the world. Unfortunately, today there are over 40,000 animal species considered either endangered or threatened. The Zoo helps to educate and bring attention to the plight of these animals, and provide opportunities for the local community to provide support and help.
