Women of Achievement – Robyn Bridges

After graduating with a double major in international business and French from the University of Alabama, Birmingham native Robyn Bridges drove off to California. She recalls, “It took only about a year for me to learn I wasn’t the independent, cosmopolitan girl I fancied myself to be.” She came back to Alabama and shortly thereafter landed in Auburn, with no clue at the time that it would become her forever home.

Bridges began her career in hospitality management as a marketing assistant at the Hotel at Auburn University. She stayed there for seven years and worked her way up to hotel operations manager. Shortly thereafter, an opportunity with the Auburn and Opelika Tourism Bureau became available. Bridges says, “It was a chance to stay in the industry I was passionate about while exercising more of my marketing, creative, and communications skills.” As vice president, she oversees all operations in support of the bureau’s goals and core values.

Bridges calls community service “a lifelong passion.” She has volunteered with a variety of organizations, including board positions with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Lee County, United Way of Lee County, and the Southeast Tourism Society. She also serves on Auburn Planning Commission and on the boards of both the Auburn and Opelika Chambers of Commerce. She is active in other professional networks and associations that provide volunteer opportunities in everything from promoting literacy to stacking cans at the food bank’s community market.

All of these endeavors are important to Bridges, but she says, “Spending time with my family is my greatest joy. Our children are all grown now, and it has been an adjustment not having them at home.” She spends her spare time cooking, reading and traveling.

On her selection as a Woman of Achievement, Bridges shares, “I place tremendous value on my work, my professional relationships, and my responsibility as a mother to raise contributing, successful members of society. I believe that we are all called to work hard and to contribute to our families and our communities to the very best of our ability.”
