s a new parent, you have so many re- sponsibilities that you often feel over- whelmed and don’t know where to start. It’s been many years since I was in that position, as my youngest child, a daughter named Ashton, is about to turn 27. But I do re- member that time when I had a six-year old son (Brad, who is now 33) and a newborn daughter, a husband, a church, a career, family and friends, a home, a dog and so on… so many things that think- ing this far ahead (I’m 58 years old now) was the last thing on my mind. I was just trying to find a way to get a little sleep! Thinking back through those years, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t a United Way donor. When I signed the paperwork for my very first job at Union Bank & Trust, signing that United Way donor card was an “automatic.” I remember attending the campaign kickoff meeting and feeling so touched by what was shared that I felt like I wanted to give my entire paycheck to United Way! I can honestly say that, throughout my entire career, I have never received a paycheck that did not have my payroll deduction for my United Way contribution listed on it. W HY U NITED W AY ? Why United Way? That is easier to answer now, because United Way is so much more to me now than it was when I was a 20-year old college girl, newly married and new to banking.
